Are a Centerlock rotor and a 6-bolt hub (or vice versa) compatible?
It depends on the direction. A 6-bolt rotor on a Centerlock hub: YES, with a Centerlock-to-6-bolt adapter (Shimano SM-RTAD05, Problem Solvers, TRP, Hunt…) that threads onto the hub's Centerlock spline and provides a 6-bolt flange. A Centerlock rotor on a 6-bolt hub: NO — the reverse adapter doesn't exist. Caveats: respect the adapter's rotor-size limit (165–223 mm depending on model), avoid two-piece rotors with an aluminium spider, and check adapter + hub + rotor diameter.
What you need — before you buy
- It depends on the exact parts: read the answer above and check the manufacturer's spec for your specific model and year.
- When in doubt, keep the same brand and generation across the components that must work together.
- Match the part to your exact hub/frame: check brand, model and year. Don't choose a freehub body or component by standard name alone.
